Welcome to Charts and Templates

A Chart describes everything inside a chart window.  A template is a file that contains all the components of a chart except it doesn't include the symbol and timespan.  The template doesn’t include the symbol and timespan so if can be applied to any chart without changing the data, only changing the way the studies , signals, and draw tools are displayed.  You can have an ema template, a momentum template, etc. and quickly call these up using hotkeys, see "Using Hot Keys".

Chart Main Menu

The main menu for a chart can be found under "Main Menu" ==> "Chart" or in the chart right click menu "Right Click Menu" ==> "Chart" .  Any of these keys will apply to the last active chart (the last chart to have a mouse click in it).

Tip: If you hold the shift key down while clicking these buttons it will apply to all the charts in the workspace not just the active chart.

Changing a Symbol - Just click in the chart you want to change and then type in the symbol and press enter.  There is a symbol entry box in the upper left of the menu but you don’t have to use it.

Changing Time Span - Click on the pull down in the left of the menu ribbon or click on the timespan button you want in the timespan potion on the right of the menu ribbon.  The number represent the number of minutes each bar will have or (D) - daily bars, (W) weekly bars, or (M) monthly bars.

Refresh Chart - Use this to refresh a chart with new historical data.  This is useful if the real time quotes has a bad tick and the data service has corrected the error in their history. Also the bars created by totaling up all the real time ticks never exactly match the history of a data vendor, so an occasional refresh will make sure your chart matches the official history.

Extended Trading - This will show before and after hours trading in the stock.  If you are following futures you will need to turn this on or go to "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Data Feeds" ==> "Show Futures Always with Extended Trading" and set it to true.  Currencies always default to extended trading.

Chart Type - Choose "Candle Stick", "High Low Close Bar",  "Line", or "Fill" to display how you want your chart to plot stock prices.

Volume -Toggles a panel with volume on and off.

Chart Titles - This will toggle the chart/study titles in the chart on and off.  Turning it off will give you more room in the chart but you will lose the ability to right click in the study title to get the study right click menu and the ability to drag and drop the template and studies.  You can still right click on the study line on the chart to get the same result (right click when the hand appears) but it is harder to find  than the title.

Info Window

This will bring up a window on the right of the chart and a line (the cursor) over the latest bar.  This window shows information about each bar on the chart.  The position of the cursor shows which bar is the window is showing data on.  Just click on a bar to see the contents of the info window for that bar. As a special feature,  if the cursor is left on one of the last two bars it will automatically advance with each new bar.  This allows constant monitoring of the last active bar or the last closed bar.

Price - This part of the info window shows the Date, Time, Volume, Open, High, Low, Close, and the amount of time before the bar closes for the chart bar under the blue cursor line.  You can change how time is displayed by changing  "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Info Window" ==> "Display time in 24 hour mode" .  This value can be true or false.

Trades and Trends (PhiCube only) - This shows no trade conditions and the status of numerous PhiCube Studies.

Rainbows (PhiCube only) - This shows the current rainbow status of a chart bar based upon PhiCube studies.

Study Values - This will list the actual value of each study line on the chart under the blue cursor.

If you click on a study value it will toggle the chart display of the  line off and on.

The display and sort order of the study values can be changed in Preferences: "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Info Window" .

Color Values by Line Color - Set this to true and the study value text will appear in the same color as the line on the chart.

Display Study Values - This describes how to sort all the chart line values.

Don’t Sort Study Values - Display the values in the order they were added to the chart, don’t sort.

Sort Study Values by Price - This will sort all the values by price and will add close price into the list.  You can see in a quick glance where price is in relation to all the chart lines.

Sort Study Values by Category - This will first sort the value by type i.e. EMAs all together, then it will sort by price under each category.
