Welcome to Community Site Introduction
The community site contains much of the team interaction such as forums, blogs, articles, profiles, wikis. The home page can be opened by clicking the tab at the top of the program
Or by selecting it from the Main Menu
Home page
The home page lists all the information you have posted on the site, allows you to keep track of your friends, conversations, files, and profiles. Below is a typical home page
The following information describes the components of your home page.
User ID Panel
The user ID panel contains your Community Server identifying information such as your user name and avatar. It also contains a link to your public profile and links so you can edit your profile or change your avatar. The panel is located in the top-left corner of the home page.
When you click "View public profile", Community Server opens your profile page, which provides other users with the personal information about yourself that you want to make public, such as your biography, your list of friends, favorite feeds, groups to which you belong, and so on.
You can click Edit profile to edit your user profile, which contains options for customizing the personal information you make public to the community.
Navigation Panel
The navigation panel is located at the top of the Dashboard page.
You can navigate to any of the main pages of your community by clicking on the navigation panel link. The navigation panel displays on every page of your community. It is worth noting that the only item on the navigation panel that is specific to your data is the home page. When you click on Blogs, for example, your community's main blog page displays with the list of blog posts. The same is true for Forums, Files & Media, and Wikis.
Conversations
One of the features of the Web community is the ability of community members to converse with each other. The conversations section of the Dashboard page lists your conversations with other members of your community.
You can begin a conversation by: Clicking Start a Conversation from a friend's Public Profile page.
You can get to someone's profile quickly by right clicking in the user list to the right of chat and selecting view profile or clicking on one of your friends in the home page. When you receive a message from another community member, it displays in the Conversations section.
You can click on the conversation title to open a dialog window from which you can reply to the message.
Applications Panel
The Forums, Blogs, Wikis, and Media sections provide you with links to your most recent discussions, postings, wiki articles, and media downloads.
As you publish, the titles of your blogs and forums and pages display in the appropriate sections of your applications. When you click on a title, Community Server opens that page. You can click a View all link to open the application main page.
Friends
Friends are users whom you have designated to receive special privileges and about whom you are continually updated.
Note that the activity list is separated by date. You can click on the user name to open the user's public profile.
When you send a friendship request or receive a friendship request, the user is added to your friendship list and you are added to the user's friendship list.
Favorites
The Favorites section displays the list of forums, posts, and media that you have specifically identified as a favorite.
When you find a discussion, post, or media file that you really like, Community Server allows you to identify it as a favorite simply by clicking a link. For example, as shown above, you have not selected any favorites. But suppose that when browsing through the forums you find a post that you want to add as a favorite.
When you click Favorites, you can specify whether to add the forum or the post to the favorites list.
The favorite then displays in the Favorites list on your home page.
Your Files
The Your Files section lists the files you have uploaded to the community and provides a link that will take you to a file download page if you have permissions to download files.
As you can see from the example above, you have not uploaded any files. If you click "View all and upload files", and if you have upload permission, Community Server takes you to a download page from which you can download a file. The file will then display in the Your Files list.
Action Links
The action links always appear in the upper-right corner of every page in the community.
The username link (Richard Carlin in the example above) always takes you to your public profile. "Edit" opens the Edit Your Profile page. Sign out signs you out of the community. Help opens the Support launch page. Conversations opens a page with your list of conversations. "Friends" opens a page with your list of friends.
