Welcome to How To Use Alerts

Alerts can be used to remind you when a change occurs in a stock chart that could lead you to make a trade.  Once an alert is set the program will remember and monitor the alert whenever the program is running.  The state of the alerts will be saved when you close the program and will be restarted at the same point when you reload the program.  When an alert goes off it will sound and alarm and popup an alert box notifying you of which alert triggered and giving you the option of resetting it or ending it.

Alerts Manager

All the alerts in the program can be viewed from the alerts manager.  To open this manager  click "Main Menu" ==>  "Components" ==> "Alerts" or use the "Menu Circle" ==> "New/Open" ==> "Alerts".

This brings up a list of all the alerts in the program.  The alerts are categorized by symbol and active alert titles will be shown in bright white  while inactive alert title are shown in a darker gray.  Just click on an alert to see the details of the alert in the property window on the right of the alert list.

You can change any of the properties of the alert in the properties windows.  Below are the main menu choices if you do not have an alert highlighted.

Add Alert - Click this to add a new alert.

Clear - This will clear all alert from the alert manager.

Print - Print a list of all the alerts.

Print Preview - See the list of all alerts before you print it.

If you right click  on the alert name or use the top menu when the alert is highlighted, you can execute five additional commands

Test Sound - This will sound the alarm currently attached to the alert to see what is sounds like.

Delete Alert - Remove the Alert permanently.

See Chart - This will call up the stock, timespan, and study in the currently active chart window.

Export ==> Copy Alert To Chat - Copy this alert to the current chat channel.  Anyone who clicks on this alert will automatically have it added to their alerts manager.

Export ==> Copy Alert to Forum or Blog - This will make a copy of the alert to the clipboard which can be posted into a forum or blog.  If the link is clicked while in the program, the alert will be added to the users alert manager.  If the link is clicked while in a separate browser nothing will happen.

When your done just click the close box on the alert manager, the alert manager will remain active even when the alert manager window is closed.  The alerts manager is always active when the program is open.

The Alert Box

Study Alerts

A study alert triggers an alert when the signal conditions of a study change state, for example, a change from buy to sell. A study alert has the following properties.

Timespan - The length of a chart bar for the study.

Use End of Bar - If this is set to true an alert will only be triggered when a chart bar closes if the study changes state.  If set to false, an alert will trigger the second the study changes states even if the bar continues to oscillate between by and sell in the same chart bar.

Inputs - You can change the inputs of a study from here.  For example, if you want the alert to trigger off a 15 bar MACD signal, change the length of 12 to 15.

Symbol - The symbol of the stock issue being monitored for an alert.

Use Extended Hours - If true the alert will monitor pre and post market trading hour changes.  This is useful for futures.

Sound - This is the wav file that will be sounded when the alert is triggered.  You can test the sound of the wav file by clicking "Test Sound" at the bottom of the property window.

Alert Condition - This determines what will trigger the alert.  This can be one of three values.

Buy - The alert will trigger when the study signal condition first changes to a buy from a non buy state.

Sell - The alert will trigger when the study signal condition first changes to a sell form a non sell state.

Auto Set - This tells the alert, when it is started, to find the current buy or sell state of the alert and then set the alert to trigger when the opposite occurs. i.e. if the study is currently in a sell state, the auto set will change this field to Buy automatically when the alert is started.

Comment - You can add a personal comment here to remind you why you set this alert.  When it triggers the comment will be display in the alert box.

Trigger Set - If set to true the alert is active, if set to false, the alert is inactive.

Price Alerts

A price alert triggers when a value of the stock chart exceeds a predefined level. When you add a new alert scroll down past the studies and you will find the price alerts.

You can set a price alert on any of these fields if your data feed supports it.  The most common type of price alert will be the Trade price.  A trade alert has the following properties.

A trendline alert triggers when price crosses the trendline from one side to the other.  This type of alert cannot be set in the alert manager.  This can only be set by right clicking on a trendline and selecting  "Add Trendline Alert".

When the alerts starts it will automatically figure out which side of the trendline it is on and will trigger when it crosses to the other side.  Once the alert is set you can view it in the Alert manager.  A trendline Alert has the following properties.

Symbol -The symbol of the stock issue being monitored for an alert.

Use Extended Hours - If true the alert will monitor pre and post market trading hour changes.  This is useful for futures.
