Welcome to How to Use Chart Signals.

A chart signal is a study buy, sell, or generic signal.

System Color Bars

You can access a number of study signals from "Main Menu" ==> "Color Bars".

This menu only displays color bars on the chart.

No Paint Bars - Clicking this will turn off any paint bars in the active chart.  Clicking this while holding the shift button down will turn off color bars in all charts.

Color Bar Buttons - These are team or specific color bars which are added or deleted by the administrator of the team (see "Menu Administration") Clicking any of these buttons will toggle the color bars on and off for the associated study.

Study Signal Pull Down - Clicking this will show a menu of all the studies in the program that have signals.  Clicking on any of the studies will draw the color bar signals for the study.  Any time you build a new study or load one from somewhere like chat it will appear here.

Study Buy and Sell Signals

You can also display signals directly from any study on the chart. There are six ways to plot study buy and sell signals on a chart.  All of them are accessed through the right click menu on a study title. "Study Title Right Click Menu" ==> "Signals" ==> one of six signal displays.  You can use all study display modes together, each using a different study, except" Draw Signal Background" and "Color Chart with Latest Signal" which both use the background.

Draw Color Bars

This will display a study's buy and sell signals by coloring the chart bars either green (on a buy signal), red (on a sell signal), or brown(on a neutral signal).  These default colors can be changed in "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Appearance" ==> "Buy Sell Colors" .

In this picture the 50 EMA is set to draw color bars.  Looking at the EMA, when the close is above the 50 EMA the chart bars are green, when the below red.  The actual ema can be removed from the chart ( "Study Title Right Click Menu" ==> "Delete Study") without affecting the color bars.  Notice also if you move the mouse over a color bar it will show a popup of the signal of the bar under the mouse.  If you click on the "Draw Color bars" a second time it will toggle the color bars off. You can only have one study at a time attached to the color bars.

Draw Signal Background

This will display a study's buy and sell signals by coloring the chart background behind the bars either green (on a buy signal), red (on a sell signal), or brown(on a neutral signal).  These default colors can be changed in "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Appearance" ==> "Buy Sell Colors" .

This chart has 50 EMA color bar signals and Momentum (Rate of Change) background color signals.  You can only have one study at a time attached to the signal background.

Draw Signal Arrows

This will display a study's buy and sell signals by adding either green (on a buy signal) or red (on a sell signal) arrows above and below the bars .  These default colors can be changed in "Menu Circle" ==> "Preferences" ==> "Appearance" ==> "Buy Sell Colors" .

Study Generic Signals

The five display modes work for all study signals not just buy and sell ones.  Most studies will only have buy and sell signals but you can construct studies with many generic signals where each signal indicates a specific state of the study.  A good example of this is a MIMA Fan which has no buy and sell signals but 10 different generic signals each of which has a different color.  See "Building a Study with the Study Wizard" for more information on generic signals.
