Welcome to Making a New Study on a Chart

If you only want to change the inputs of a study or attach some modifiers to it, it is very easy to create a new custom study.  This help will show how to create a new study to show when the On Balance Volume crosses its 20 bar EMA.

Create The Study on a Chart

Right Click in a Chart and select "Studies" ==> ">Volume Studies" ==> "On Balance Volume".

Next we will change the color of the OBV line by Right Clicking in the Study Title on the chart and selecting Line Properties.

Then we will change the color of the OBV line to orange.

Add The Modifier to the Study

Next we will  add an EMA of the OBV line. Right Click on the OBV study title in the chart and select "Study Modifier" ==> ">Moving Average" ==> "Exponential Moving Average".

This adds an EMA to the OBV line with a default of 17 but we want it to be 20.  Click in the edit box in the study title and change it to 20.

Next change the color and style of the line by Right Clicking on the study title and selecting "Line Properties".

Then we will change the style to Dot Narrow.

Now our study is finished and next we will add it to the program.

Saving the New Study to the Program

Right Click on the study title in the chart and select "Add Study To Program"

This will bring up a message box asking if we want to overwrite the current study or rename it.

Since this is a new study and not an update of the existing study we will click No.  Then we get a dialog to give the study a new name.

We give the study a new name of OBV-EMA20 and then click Save. We should get a message box telling us it has been successfully saved.

New Study Integrated in the Program

Now our new study is part of the program.  If we right click in the chart and bring up studies we find the new study in the menu.

The study will be in all the appropriate menus throughout the program,  Also, since our modifier already had buy and sell signals so does our new study.  Right Click in the study title and select  "Signals" ==> "Draw Color bars".

Now our chart has both the new study and the buy/sell color bars associated with it.
