Welcome to Tagging a Watchlist
A watchlist can have up to three different independent check box columns labeled respectively Tag, Buy, Sell. Since they all work the same way I will just be describing the Tag column in detail. A Tag column allows you to mark symbols of interest and then to manipulate them.
Tagging a Symbol
Since each new watchlist has a tag column all you need to do is to click the box in the tag column to Tag a symbol.
You could be looking for buy candidates, examples for training, stocks of no interest, or for any other purpose.
Tag Options
If you right click in the watchlist you will get a menu with the tag options.
Tag All Above Active Symbol - This check all the tag boxes above the active symbol. The active symbol is the row with the little arrow in the header. You can set the active row by clicking on the header.
Tag All Below Active Symbol - This check all the tag boxes below the active symbol. The active symbol is the row with the little arrow in the header. You can set the active row by clicking on the header.
Delete Tagged Symbols - This will delete all symbols that have the tag box checked. This is good if you clicked the box for stocks you were not interested in as you scanned through them.
Delete Untagged Symbols - This will delete all symbols that have the tag box unchecked. This is good if you clicked the box for stocks you were interested in as you scanned through them.
Delete Above Active Symbol - This will delete all the symbols above the active symbol. The active symbol is the row with the little arrow in the header. You can set the active row by clicking on the header.
Delete Below Active Symbol - This will delete all the symbols below the active symbol. The active symbol is the row with the little arrow in the header. You can set the active row by clicking on the header.
Tag All - This is a quick way to check all the tag check boxes.
Untag All - This is a quick way to untag all the tag check boxes.
File Tag Options
You can save your tagged results using two special options under the right click "File" menu.
Save Tagged Symbols - This will save only the symbols whose tag boxes are checked.
Save Tagged Symbols with Append - This will load the saved file, then append only the symbols whose tag boxes are checked, and then resave the file. This is a nice option for adding new buy candidates to a buy candidate list.
Drag and Drop
You can drag and drop only the symbols with their tag boxes checked by holding down the ctrl key when dragging and dropping the Blue Square in the upper left of the window to another window. For example if you drag the blue square with ctrl key down to the inside of a chart, a new watchlist will open with just your tagged symbols and will be linked to the chart you dropped the blue square onto.
Buy and Sell Check Boxes
If one tag column isn't enough you can add two more, one name buy and one named sell. Right click in the watchlist and choose "Add Column" . This will bring up the add column window.
Click on either the Buy or Sell, click Add, then click Close. This will add a new checkbox column that is independent of the tag column but works exactly the same way.
The first red area shows the three independent check box columns. The second red box shows that tag options have now appeared for each of the columns. Finally, the last red box shows the File menu now has options for all three columns.
Deleting a Column
You can remove any of the check box columns by right clicking on the column and selecting "Delete Column".
